Constructed in 1901, the “Granary” is one of many ubiquitous structures scattered throughout the Midwest built to meet the silage demands of an extensive agrarian economy. By the mid-1960s, however, the need for such granaries diminished as industrial scale farming operations gave way to in-situ storage facilities. While this example of agro-infrastructure has remained idle along the shores of Sturgeon Bay for the past 60 years, the local community recognizes the transformative value of this towering wood structure repurposed for civic use.

Featuring a presentation and panel discussion, attendees will learn more about the process of reinventing this historic grain elevator from members of the design team and local project executives. Ensuing tours will reveal the new ascending pathway within the original cellular bin compartments leading to the head house and views of the Sturgeon Bay harbor.
