Imagine this: It's the early 1840s and you and your family have just settled a few miles west of the Fox River, 40 miles west of Chicago.  You've got acres of land with unlimited resources for building materials, and there are nearby mills, quarries and brickyards.  But you have to build your home, barn and outbuildings by yourself.  Where do you start??

Well, fortunately it's not the 1840s--and we have help!  Come join us at the Durant House Museum to step (figuratively) back in time to learn how Illinois' settlers would have gone about building their homes.  Watch and learn as historians talk about what tools would have been needed and get your hands dirty while trying some of them out.  Afterwards, satiate your well-earned hunger with a snack cooked on the hearth.  A short tour of the house will follow the presentation and snack.

Space is limited to 20 participants, so register soon! The event is free for APT WGLC members and $5.00 for non-members.
